Adjusting to your new SOMO mask; a 5-day plan

For some, using a new sleep mask is as simple as putting it on and drifting off to sleep.  For others, it can take a bit longer to get accustomed to the new experience.  It's perfectly normal to feel a bit uncomfortable when trying something new, even expected, and it can take some time for your body and mind to adapt.  

So, here are some simple steps that you can follow to acclimate to your mask, and with a little patience, blissful sleep will be yours and you'll get the results you're looking for.

Out of the box

Shape your mask

To shape your mask to your face, hold the mask in both hands, with the inside facing you, place your thumbs on the nose wire, and press forward with your thumbs as you gently pull the ends of the mask towards you. Next, gently adjust the width of the nose wire to minimize any light seeping in around your nose.

How to wear your mask

The SOMO Sleep Fitness mask should fit comfortably, without being too snug, and the SOMOsphere acupoint should be centered between your eyebrows.

The band should be positioned above your ears and is recommended to be placed higher around the back of your head.

Day one

  • Find a comfortable position on your couch or bed, and wear the mask for 15 - 30 minutes.
  • Try activating the SOMOsphere acupoint by gently pressing the button. against your forehead for 30 seconds. You can also make subtle circular motions to enhance the effect.
  • Slow down, free your mind, breath deeply and relax.

Day two

  • With the mask (Sport version) adjusted loosely around your head, try wearing the mask for 1 hour during an evening routine, such as meditation or light stretching.
  • Again, try activating the SOMOsphere and think calming thoughts.

Days three and four

  • It's time to sleep with your SOMO Sleep Fitness mask.
  • With the mask adjusted loosely, settle into bed with the aim of achieving a full night's sleep.
  • If you wake up, adjust the mask as needed, activate the SOMOsphere, and drift off back to sleep.

Day five

  • Try tightening the mask slightly so that you can comfortably sense the SOMOsphere acupoint without pressing it.
  • Calm your mind, adjust tension as needed, and ease into sleep.

Tips for success

  1. Wear your mask regularly. Like breaking in a new pair of jeans or shoes, your SOMO Sleep Fitness mask will stretch, conform, and adjust to you with continued wear.
  2. Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule can help your mind and body adjust to your new mask.
  3. If you feel discomfort, take breaks as needed and gradually increase wear time.

 

Washing your mask

Your SOMO Sleep Fitness mask can be washed.  Remove the headband on Sport masks before washing. We recommend machine washing in cold water on delicate cycle in a mesh delicates bag. Air or line dry only. Do not iron.
